Photo Fridays

While sitting in the SeaTac airport waiting to board my flight home, I noticed a Google offer for an online digital photography class. It was only $27 so I bought the offer, because I would love to take my SLR out of auto mode. The class I ended up taking was Digital 101 through Flying Photo School and I loved it. Since I knew precious little about photography before I started the class, I felt like I learned a lot.

I wanted to take their Digital 102 class but unfortunately it's sold out until April 2013. I've decided that in the interim, I'm going to start a new series here called Photo Friday. It's mostly a personal assignment to myself, so I'm going to take one new photograph a week to practice what I learned in Digital 101. I'd been posting the pictures to my Facebook page but I think it'll be more fun for me to post them here and give a brief little paragraph description as to what each one is, why I took the photo. So, without further ado, here is this week's photo.

This is my capstone assignment for Digital 101. The picture was meant to encompass all of what we learned, i.e. white balance, ISO and the different priority modes (shutter speed vs. aperture). The ornament featured is one of my favorite ones; we all know I have a penchant for cupcakes. This picture wasn't exactly what I wanted it to be, but I did like the Christmas light bokeh in the background.

If you want to see the rest of my pictures from the Digital 101 course, you can check out my Flickr photostream.
