Running in 2012

As I sit here, attempting to summarize my 2011 racing season, underwhelming is the first word that pops into my head. I snagged a sweet PR on my first 5K of the season and then experienced some massive inconsistency through the middle of the summer. I did manage to get back on track at the end of the year by following a training plan for my Thanksgiving race, but I feel like I didn't perform to my potential in the middle of the year.

I could easily blame my work schedule this past summer, but I don't think that's productive. Ultimately, I'm the one in charge of how I plan my day and if I start throwing workouts or nutrition because of a stressor then the only place to put the blame is on me. I've been thinking through my race schedule for this year quite a lot, pondering the quantity of races I want to put on it. I've concluded that, much like my blogging lately, less is more. I've select two key races for myself this year, a 10K and a 5K, that I will have two focused training periods towards.  I'll obviously have to schedule a couple of tune-up races in between these races, so I'm going to have to sit down with my trusty training plan spreadsheet relatively soon.

The two races I chose are races I ran last year so that I can actually measure whether I've improved when I run them this year.

2012 races I'm going to kick your butts.
