Growing up, we always had a real Christmas tree. The tree farm actually reserves the family Christmas tree unasked. I guess that's what comes from decades of getting the same kind of tree from the same place. I have less than fond memories of stringing up the lights onto our tree, but I do have fond memories of hanging up our ornaments and garland. Screw the angel on top of the tree though, that thing always falls off.

My mom has collected ornaments for each year since she and my father were married. Suffice to say, she has quite a lot now. There's an ornament for my birth in 1985, for my brother's birth in 1990 and two of our family dog. There's also a partially chewed wax Gingerbread Man shaped ornament that I once tricked my brother into attempting to eat. Almost all of the ornaments on the tree have a story behind them. Our Christmas tree each year is essentially a tangible family history and looking through all the ornaments is one of my more favorite parts of Christmas.

I've started collecting ornaments of my own for each year since I moved away from home. I currently have a pitiful amount, but I've got to start somewhere, right? I can only hope that one day I will have a tree as full of family memories as my Mom currently does.

What's your family's Christmas tree tradition? I'd love to hear about it! Leave me a comment down below. :)
