Fruit and veg for better skin!

I'll admit it.

I'm vain.

I'm only 26 and I'm already thinking about how to prevent wrinkles. I actually started thinking about how to prevent them when I was 24. SPF helps but I always wonder if diet can help more.

New research shows that eating a diet rich in carotenoids helps slow the appearance of aging skin. In a study of individuals between the ages of 40 and 50, the researchers found that the ones who had diets richest in carotenoids had the shallowest wrinkles and overall younger appearance to their skin.

What are carotenoids?
They're a type of naturally occurring pigment found in plants, and other photosynthetic organisms like algae. We humans are biologically incapable of producing them, hence the need to eat fruits and veggies rich in them. They act as antioxidants in humans and are best absorbed when consumed with a fat.

What has carotenoids in them?
Lots of things! Here are just a few:
  • Papaya 
  • Watermelon
  • Tomatoes
  • Mangoes
  • Grapefruit
  • Carrots
  • And many more!
