General Squirrel Rantiness

I had one of the most frustrating experiences at the gym yesterday that I've had in quite a while. I was peacefully doing my workout with headphones on when a newcomer to the gym asked me about my jump roping skills, and then starts asking all about why I workout, what I do, my weight loss, pretty much my life story.

Now while I certainly do love talking about my weight loss and have a multitude of tips and tricks, the gym is not the venue for this conversation. I am there to exercise, I have my headphones on and this is an indicator that I am not available for conversation. I kept trying to gracefully withdraw from the conversation to continue my workout, but he didn't seem to get the hint. It just led to me being really frustrated, which is not how I like to leave the gym.

Alright, rant finished.

Plants!

In other news, I think I'm going to have to replant my basil. The recent wet weather and my foolishness have led to their untimely and premature deaths. Oops. But hey, at least my tomato and cilantro plants appear to be thriving! Basil grows like a weed so I figure that once I replant it in with the cilantro, it'll be ready for harvest by July.

Westborough Spring Festival 5K Race Report

2010: 28:56
2011: 26:13

It was a significant improvement which I attribute to winter training and simply knowing the course. I felt strong through all of the hills, even the last bit which I saved some energy for a surge to get me over and off to a rapid pace down the hill. I started to flag in the last half a kilometer, but found enough left to finish strong. You can always tell that you've used up most of what's in your tank when you are two pounds lighter the day after the race! I spent the earlier part of this week resting and refueling.

It's an auspicious start to the 2011 season, and it has me hoping to break into the 25s this year.
