Thursday Tips: 6 Reasons You Should Be Running

1. It's easy!
You don't need much to get started. All you need is a good pair of running shoes (and a good sports bra if you're a woman). You should get fitted for your running shoes at a shoe store because everyone's feet are different and different shoes cater to different quirks.

2. And yet so hard.
Very few other physical activities burn as many calories per minute as running does. It's one of the main reasons so many people take up running as a way to lose weight.

3. Happy Knees
Don't listen to the naysayers! Running is not likely to destroy your knees. The second biggest risk factor for developing osteoarthritis (besides age) is body weight, and because of #2 most runners tend to be at a normal body weight thereby significantly decreasing their risk.  Running also strengthens your bones, helping to prevent osteoporosis.

4. Stress less
Exercise, in general, helps your body manage it's stress hormones better. Running is no exception and many people report a significant decrease in anxiety or depression levels on a regular exercise program.

5. Disease prevention
It's no secret that exercise prevents many of the common diseases nowadays. Runners enjoy reduced risk of heart disease and reduced blood pressure. All the more reason to lace up the sneaks and get out the door!
